Taylor Swift’s Platform Boots Are the Real Trend Worth Noticing About Her New Look

Taylor Swift is currently in the middle of her history-making Eras Tour. Not content with just that, she’s also announced a self-produced concert film about it that is already selling out theaters. Meanwhile through all of this, Swift continues to work and give us looks that resonate. Case in point: the outfit she wore this week to attend the Electric Lady Music studio in New York City that immediately had fans speculating whether or not she’s entering a new style era.

Used to seeing her in softer off-duty looks—a.k.a. the ultimate girl-next-door wardrobe—fans were surprised when Swift opted this time for an edgier outfit, consisting of black cargo pants, a tank top of the same color, a beige Ralph Lauren cap, a matching leather bag, and black platform boots.

It wasn’t all new, though: She did wear her hair in two braids, in the purest cottagecore—or Folklore/Evermore if you’re a Swiftie—style. In short, Swift seems to have found the perfect outfit for these months between seasons. It’s casual but not too much. You can layer it depending on the weather. And we probably already have most of these items in our closets. We just have to go for it.

It’s her platform boots that we’re paying the most attention to, however. Of all the pieces in this look, the shoes are the most standout item here, considering she’s mostly favored loafers, sandals, and heels in the past. And they’re right on trend, actually—you may have noticed the rise of the grunge aesthetic that’s been taking over as of late and shows no signs of slowing down for fall. What this says, exactly, about Taylor Swift and a potential new style direction for her remains to be seen. All we know is this: It’s time to invest in our own pair of platform boots.
