French First Lady Brigitte Macron Re-Wears Deep Blue Pumps for Versailles State Dinner With Queen Camilla

Re-wearing your shoes is a strong example of creating sustainable shoe habits — which French first lady Brigitte Macron did this week.

On Wednesday, Macron hosted a state dinner at the Chateau de Versailles with her husband, French President Emmanuel Macron. For the occasion, Brigitte slipped on a pair of dark blue leather pumps with smooth uppers, pointed toes and thin stiletto heels.

Though the style wasn’t fully visible, it was the same set Macron had worn in April 2022 while voting during France’s presidential election. The shoe choice was a sustainable one to make for a high-profile event such as a state dinner, elevating Macron’s attire — a long-sleeved navy dress with a crystal-embroidered neckline, waist and cuffs — with a meaningful twist.

Macron wasn’t the only guest in all-blue at the event, either. Queen Camilla also wore a dark blue dress and heels while accompanying King Charles III for the occasion, which marked the pair’s first state visit to France.

Macron’s minimalist wardrobe is regarded as a standard for the French-chic aesthetic. Most of the French first lady’s shoes are by Louis Vuitton, which is one of her go-to brands — she also counts Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière as a close friend. Aside from ankle boots, she can also be seen in pointed-toe pumps and sporty sneakers in similarly chic colors. Macron often wears blazers, dresses and pantsuits, as well as skinny jeans and trousers, in sharp neutral tones. For formal occasions, she dons elegant dresses and gowns with minimal embellishments, with most ailing from French labels like Alaïa, Alexandre Vauthier and Dior.
