Sneakers have been a common choice for both Olympians and fellow Olympic attendees as the multi-day event requires a lot of walking. Phelps joined in on the comfort trend for Tuesday’s Champions Park appearance, showcasing a simple pair of all-white sneakers with three ultra-thin red and blue stripes that were seemingly the reissued Adidas Rotterdam 00 soccer shoes.
Phelps’ shoes were constructed with leather material and included a rubber outsole for adequate comfort, durability and traction. The sneakers were inspired by a legendary soccer match in their namesake city, and have a suede upper, a leather lining and a woven tongue label.
The former Olympian also kept his outfit comfortable and casual, opting for a simple black T-shirt with matching black joggers. A black pair of sunglasses finished his outfit. Phelps was all smiles as he showed off a beard and a man bun.
This isn’t the first time Phelps has been spotted in a pair of casual white kicks. For a May 2024 appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the athlete sported a pair of white shoes from Golden Goose, quite similar to the ones he donned at the Olympic events.
Crafted with a minimalist design in mind, those shoes featured a natural calfskin upper, a rubber sole that was slightly tapered and a perforation that was dispersed throughout. A major fan of the brand, he was previously spotted in a red pair of Slide Penstar sneakers in 2021. Joining Phelps in the sneaker-wearing action for Tuesday’s Olympic sessions were Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird, who also attended the gymnastics finals.
Rapinoe wore a pair of Nike Killshot 2 sneakers in black that featured contrasting brown soles, while Bird chose the classic black and white Nike Cortez sneakers in white. Both Rapinoe and Bird accentuated their sneakers with vibrant socks.
The 2024 Olympics began on July 26 in Paris and will continue through August 11. Each year, the multisport event brings out the best of the best in terms of athletes and celebrities for participation in a wide range of sports.
