It probably comes as a shock to no one that boots are ‘In’ this fall. They’re that fashion staple you can always count on making a return; they’re practical, versatile, and come in so many different styles that it’s hard to not find a pair that works for you. But despite knowing they’d be hot this fall, there’s one trending style that did manage to surprise me.
Knee-highs and booties are never not in, but this year, celebrities seem to be making a case for their edgier counterpart: the combat boot. Taylor Swift has been wearing the style on repeat, and Blake Lively just rocked a classic pair from Dr. Martens. The actress paired her brown lace-up boots with straight-leg jeans, a loose turtleneck, Madewell’s oversized Bedford Belted Blazer, and a $10,276 Chanel bag. She expertly mixed elements of preppy and punk for a look that I’m dying to recreate.
While I’ll have to wait on the bag (indefinitely), I can buy the combat boots, because her exact style is on sale for $128 at Amazon.
Dr. Martens 1460 Leather Boots
Dr. Martens’ 1460 boots are a favorite among Amazon shoppers, where the leather shoes boast more than 2,000 five-star ratings. According to one shopper over 70, these are “supportive” and “very comfortable out of the box.” “Easily the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn,” wrote another customer who walks “10+ miles a day” because of work. They added that they were “astounded” that the boots didn’t “pinch or rub,” even right out of the box, and that by adding a waterproof coating they can now wear them year-round.
But in case they’re sold out of your size or you’re not looking to spend quite so much, I found five under-$100 lookalike styles, with prices starting at $34:
- Dream Pairs Combat Boots, $34 (Originally $80); amazon.com
- Vepose 916 Combat Boots, $48 (Originally $102); amazon.com
- Guess Orana Combat Boots, $60 (Originally $99); nordstrom.com
- Madewell the Evelyn Lace-Up Ankle Boots, $78 with code LETSGO (Originally $130); madewell.com
- Dr. Scholl’s Headstart Boots, $83 (Originally $130); zappos.com
Vepose 916 Combat Boots
At Amazon, Vespose’s 916 boots are 53 percent off. This style is available in six colors — though brown gets you the closest to Lively’s look — and features a small heel, lug-sole bottom, and an elastic mouth for easy on-and-off. And according to shoppers, they’re “fashionable” and functional. “They are extremely comfortable and look great with just about anything,” wrote one fan, while another person explained that their comfort and durability makes them “good for long wear and walking.”
Dr. Scholl’s Headstart Boots
If comfort is your top priority, Dr. Scholl’s Headstart boots are a must thanks to their memory foam footbed. One shopper wrote that they preferred these to Dr. Martens because of their light weight and immediate comfort, adding that they planned to wear these to a festival where they’d be on their feet for hours: “They’re THAT comfortable.” “I love the style, comfort and look of these boots,” said another person, adding that “the traction is really superb.” And per a 66-year-old customer, these are “perfect…lightweight and comfy, yet look like [they] can kick butt.”
